Support Rexburg Businesses

One thing often heard from those in Rexburg is that there is nothing to do and nowhere to shop.  But there is more in Rexburg than we usually think.

Just Main Street has a great many small shops that are generally unnoticed as we hurry to Wal-Mart or one of the other more well-known stores.  For example, did you know there is a Tai restaurant on Main Street?  There are actually a large number of restaurants in Rexburg of many different types including four Chinese restaurants and a new Greek restaurant, Opa’s.

There are a few furniture stores in Rexburg, and if you are looking for something quick and simple, K-mart has a small selection of good quality furniture, though you would have to assemble it yourself.

Rexburg also hosts a surprising number of places to buy, or even rent, formal wear.  This is likely due to the large population of college students who are getting engaged in large numbers each semester.  If you do not want to buy a dress you will probably only wear once, The Glass Slipper offers designer dresses for rent for a lower price and includes dry-cleaning and fitting.  There are several places to go for more casual clothes shopping as well.

We have 11 car dealerships in Rexburg as well.  While some of them are small, between them there ought to be a reasonable selection of cars to choose from without the need to go all the way to Idaho Falls.

There are also several places to go for activities locally.  We have three movie theaters as well as a drive-in theater.  There are hiking and camping opportunities close by if you prefer outdoors activities.  Many students may go out to the lava plain for a bonfire or explore the lava tubes like the Civil Defense Caves.  There is also Rexburg Rapids open for the summer and a splash park on the south side of Porter Park.

The Rexburg Tabernacle also hosts free concerts throughout the summer and for holidays along with the Teton Dam Flood Museum in the basement.  The Romance Theater is also being restored and hosts performances and gatherings throughout the year.

While Rexburg does not have a general bookstore, and Porter’s stopped carrying books, there is a used book store across the street from Broulim’s and Deseret Book offers LDS materials.  The Madison County Library also finished its expansion earlier this year and contains a lot of books that you can check out for three weeks at a time instead of the usual two.

Try looking up computer repair places and you will find many options that you may never have seen otherwise.  If you only ever go to Wal-Mart, K-mart, or Broulim’s, you will miss out on a lot of what Rexburg has to offer.  Many businesses are not on the main thoroughfares, but if you explore a little you will find a lot.
