September 21st at 7:30pm in the BYU-I Center the
Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra will be performing.
The Choir is made of 360 volunteers age 25-60, including
Alex Boye who performed at BYU-I earlier this year. It is one of the oldest and largest choirs in
the world. It was formed in 1847 and has
performed in more than 28 countries. Its
weekly broadcast, Music and the Spoken Word, has been on the air since
1929.
The organ at the Tabernacle is part of the Choir’s signature
sound and is “one of the largest and most elaborate organs in the world.” So, when the Choir is touring, a special
digital organ comes with it to “recreate the Choir’s signature sound of voices
accompanied by the organ.”
The Orchestra at Temple Square is made of 110 volunteers and
was founded in 1999. It often
accompanies the choir for performances in the Conference Center, such as the
yearly Christmas Devotional.
This will be event dress and no children under six are
allowed. Tickets are available at
tickets.byui.edu. Be sure to get your
tickets early as this is bound to be a very popular event.
