New Restaurant

The Hickory is open and flourishing in the strip mall by Zion's Bank.

It serves barbeque and has different specials for each day of the week.  Today was the dealio day with the special being pulled pork sandwiches with fries and a drink.  It was delicious.  The sandwiches are the perfect size with a generous helping of natural fries.  It's served together in a little crate.  They also serve wonderful hot chocolate.

If you order something bigger than a sandwich combo, like ribs or brisket, then you get a plate.  Last Saturday they had a rib-cutting and grand opening with samples of their ribs offered.  They were very good.

The decor is fun, using crates and canning jars.  Sodas are also served in canning jars.  The atmosphere is homey and comfortable.  The Hickory opens at 11:00 every day, come try them out for lunch or dinner.  You won't regret it.

Make it for Maggie

by Kerry Haack

The third annual Make it for Maggie event is scheduled to take place October 27, 2012. In the fall of 2010 two women discussed what they could do for their friend’s 4 year old daughter, Maggie. Maggie’s cerebral palsy kept her in a baby-like state, but with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) it could be possible for Maggie to live a more normal life. The expensive treatments were not covered by insurance, so Maggie’s parents asked families they knew to help them by coming up with creative ways to raise the funds to sponsor 1 of the 80 oxygen dives needed for the year.

Support Rexburg Businesses

One thing often heard from those in Rexburg is that there is nothing to do and nowhere to shop.  But there is more in Rexburg than we usually think.

Just Main Street has a great many small shops that are generally unnoticed as we hurry to Wal-Mart or one of the other more well-known stores.  For example, did you know there is a Tai restaurant on Main Street?  There are actually a large number of restaurants in Rexburg of many different types including four Chinese restaurants and a new Greek restaurant, Opa’s.

Summer's End

August is generally the hottest month of the year, though it is after the Summer Solstice and thus the days are getting shorter.  It is the beginning of the harvest season; time to see the result of your summer labor.
